Congress' Complicity
The murder of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny is confirmed. Just one more reason to expedite aid to patriots in Ukraine as they battle for their freedom against Russian tyrant, czar, KGB agent and ruthless killer Vladimir Putin.
Who among us would return to our native land knowing to do so would most likely end with an early death imposed by our native land's dictator? Lawyer, politician and courageous husband, father and freedom lover Navalny did just that and is now confirmed dead at age 47 while imprisoned in an isolated Soviet era gulag north of the Arctic Circle.
Meanwhile, our endlessly ignorant and clueless Congress has adjourned for another two weeks after accomplishing very little for months with the exceptions of going through half a dozen men of little talent until landing on another lightweight in Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson as the Speaker of the House. Oh, they also found time to impeach a cabinet member for the first time in 150 years. But outside of those two tepid, timid, tiring thrusts at governing little was accomplished except cashing their checks and heading home.
Likewise ammunition, drones, tanks, missiles and bombs are in short supply in eastern Ukraine where the World War I trench combat continues with over 350,000 Russians dead or wounded and perhaps 150,000 Ukrainians as well. This, after two years of savagery. For comparison, our own four-year Civil War saw 700,000 Americans dead, wounded or missing.
And who is to blame for our cut-and-run behavior? It's simple. A bi-partisan funding bill for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan and greater security and safeguards for our Southern border passed the Senate last week on a bi-partisan, 70-yes, 20-no margin and has overwhelming support in the Democrat caucus in the lower body.
However, Speaker Johnson is so afraid of his so-called Freedom Caucus he refuses, so far, to bring the bill to the floor because he knows if he did it would pass overwhelmingly.
Why would he be so ignorant? Because Donald Trump doesn't want resolution to the border challenges because, as he has admitted, he wants the crisis situation to remain turbulent until after the November election.
How childish, shortsighted and plain dangerous – not just for Russia, Ukraine, NATO countries and the United States, but also, frankly, the entire world.
So sick. So sad. So stupid. Such sorry behavior by people who apparently have no understanding or interest in our history or the former Soviet Union's, either.
