It’s no secret that one in five Oklahoma children frequently go to bed hungry. Or that Oklahoma is 46th in child well-being. Yet Gov. Kevin Stitt recently blocked the state’s participation in a federal program that would give each eligible child $120 for summer meals – tax dollars Sooners already sent to Washington will now help feed hungry kids in other states, but not in ours. For this week’s Observercast – Pot Shot At The Poor – former teacher-turned-Tulsa Rep. John Waldron and OKC School Board member Mark Mann help us unpack the governor’s confounding decision and what it means for the least among us.
