Are you nervous going into 2024? I remember the queasy feeling in my stomach in November 2016 when the results of the presidential election were announced. That seems like a mild case of indigestion now.
How can so many people think an authoritarian is just what this country needs? Good grief! The working people sending him money for his campaign will be in the same sinking boat that the rest of us will be in if he gets his way.
There’s only one thing to do: make sure you’re registered and get to the polls. Every person who values the right to vote again for new candidates in 2028 better make it to the polls to re-elect Joe Biden in 2024.
Think he’s too old? He’s far sharper than a lot of the younger pols wanting to unseat him. And he has two advantages, a proven track record and the power of the incumbency.
For the past four years, we’ve made progress, despite one party trying to gum up the works along the way. President Biden pulled NATO together. Ukraine didn’t fall in a matter of days, as was predicted. Bipartisan legislation, made possible by a seasoned politician who knows how to work across the aisle, was passed. The Biden Administration invested as much in the economy as the previous administration’s tax cuts took out.
Right now, employment is good and wages are rising. The Federal Reserve did what needed to be done. Infrastructure projects are going on around the country. The DOW is at record highs.
To be fair, for the working poor, things aren’t that good. If you’re earning minimum wage or working too few hours for benefits, what the stock market does is irrelevant. When you don’t have access to healthcare, when your rent is rising, it’s hard to be optimistic.
If we want to fix these things, we need Congress to step up. Biden will work with Congress if Congress will work with him. Remember what he’s accomplished in the last four years and get to the polls in 2024. Take a friend with you.
I agree with you, more than I can say! Please continue with your excellent commentary in 2024!
